Skincare Routine Basics Everyone Should Follow

If you’re like most people, you probably give a fair amount of thought to how you look before you leave the house for the day. Most of us want to put our best foot forward, and our appearance is typically how people form their initial impression of others. Your skin is the foundation for everything about your appearance. In order to keep it looking nice, there are some skincare routine basics that everyone should follow.

Cleanse

As you go throughout the day, your face collects a surprising amount of junk. Some of it comes from you, some of it may be stuff you added, and some of it comes from just being out and about. Sweat, dirt, makeup, dust, oils, and other products all collect on your skin throughout the day. This can take a real toll on both the health and appearance of your skin. Cleansing your face both morning and night helps you keep your skin clean, fresh, and healthy.

Moisturize

Sun exposure, dry conditions, hot showers, and more all can impact the levels of moisture in your skin. Dry skin looks unhealthy and unattractive, not to mention uncomfortable. When skin is dry, it’s more prone to itching and cracking. A good moisturizer can help replenish your skin’s moisture levels. Like cleansing, it’s best to moisturize both in the morning and at night. This helps keep the moisture levels in your skin consistent and helps it have a more youthful, healthy look.

Sunscreen

If you want your skin to look young and beautiful, skip the tanning bed and grab the bottle of sunscreen instead. Exposure to UV rays from the sun damages your skin and hastens the arrival of wrinkles. UV rays can also cause your skin to become pigmented unevenly. Sunburns increase your risk of developing skin cancer. While some sun exposure is good and helps you synthesize vitamin D, 15 minutes is plenty of time in the sun for that purpose. Regularly applying and reapplying sunscreen throughout the day will help you avoid the negative effects that sun exposure can have on your skin.

Basic skincare is good for everyone, regardless of the type of skin any given person has. Routine basics like cleansing, moisturizing, and applying sunscreen are good for everyone, though the specifics as far as what formula works best will vary from person to person. Remember, having healthy skin is the first step towards looking your best.
