What to Do to Get Clearer Skin

Acne breakouts are generally thought to be something we deal with in our years as teens. Some of us leave acne behind as we grow into adults. Then there are those of us that find ourselves dealing with breakouts and skin that just isn’t as clear as we’d like it. If you’re one such person, what can you do to get clearer skin?

Don't Touch!

Have you ever counted how many times you touch your face in an hour? It’s probably a lot more than you think. While it’s a perfectly normal thing to do, it isn’t good for your skin. Our hands have dirt and oils that easily get transferred to our faces where they will get into our pores and lead to breakouts. If you do end up with a breakout, leave any zits or pimples alone. Picking at them or popping them exposes your skin to more bacteria, increasing your risk of infection and scarring.

Relax

Did you know that there’s a connection between stress and acne? It’s true. The more stressed you are, the more likely your skin is to break out. To reduce your risk of breaking out from being stressed, find things that help you manage your stress in a healthy way. You might try meditation, yoga, or breathing exercises. Some people find journaling to be helpful, while others may be soothed by playing an instrument or listening to favorite songs. You could even try burning off some of your stress by exercising.

Pick Products with Care

As strange as it might sound, it’s possible that your breakouts could be caused by the products you’re putting on your skin. Using skincare products can help, but only if they aren’t irritating your skin. If they are, they could be making your breakouts worse. Be picky about your makeup products as well. Not all makeup is skin-friendly. Look for products that are noncomedogenic or are oil-free. Make sure your hands are clean before you put makeup on and that you wash your brushes and sponges on a weekly basis. Be sure to remove it before going to bed too. Avoid using makeup that has expired as well, since it will be more likely to harbor bacteria.

You shouldn’t have to just deal with skin that isn’t clear. Fortunately, there are some simple things you can do to help your skin be more clear. If you need more intense help, you can always see a dermatologist who can give you recommendations and guidance for how to keep your skin clear.
